Nesquik is back on its marketing A-game after a 10 year “break” from television advertising. The new ads will feature their mascot, Quicky theRabbit, who has been the face of Nesquik for 37 years. (Quicky ages well, don’t you agree?) In this new campaign, they will promote their new recipe that is free from artificial ingredients and show that powdered drinks are actually health beneficial to children. The ad was created by McCann Erickson and was launched on July 19th and will run for 6 weeks. The campaign is supported by a newly launched Nesquik website, which is targeted at both kids and adults alike. Upon visiting it, I found a lot of useful information for adults such as outdoor activity suggestions to keep healthy and moving, healthy eating guidelines, and delicious looking recipes. For the kids, there are online downloads, games, reasons why it’s important to stay healthy and fun ways to stay in shape (like making your own cute hand weights). Even though this new campaign cost Nesquik a pretty penny, I think it will have a positive outcome. Go check out the site and tell us what you think!

For many people, a one page resume with your personal accolades and work experience are sufficient enough to land you a job. For designers and other creative professionals, a portfolio is a must to show what type of work you are capable of. Monster, LinkedIn..these sites weren’t creative friendly. Now that has all changed though. Behance, a creative professional platform, has joined forces with LinkedIn and a new application called Creative Portfolio has been created. This app allows users to upload their portfolios right to their LinkedIn account. Making the transition easier, Behance users can sync their portfolios to LinkedIn and choose what pieces they would like to showcase.

This is such a great development that was long overdue. Behance is a well known site in the design world, but doesn’t have the wide range of users as LinkedIn does. LinkedIn is a very well known business community and now will gain even more popularity from the creatives of the workforce. It’s a win-win for everyone!

What do you think? Is Behance and LinkedIn a force to be reckoned with?

The Man Your Man Could Smell Like

Upon signing onto Twitter today I noticed in the right hand side of the screen the Trending categories of the moment. Amongst them was a sponsored trend, Old Spice. Out of curiousity, I decided to click through to their page. What I found was pure marketing genious. I noticed every Old Spice tweet was @tweeting someone a short comment and a YouTube video. The video was a personal response to the lucky selected few who had @tweeted him. I have no clue how Old Spice did it, but it sure got people talking. I was curious to see how many people had mentioned Old Spice in their own tweets and the numbers were countless. I tried myself to catch the attention of the strapping Old Spice man, but had no success. Old Spice has really recreated their marketing campaign recently with new television commercials showcasing the Old Spice man on a white horse doing manly things to this one-of-a-kind Twitter campaign. Go sign onto Twitter and check out the page and let us know what you think!

With the initial shock of the oil spill in the Gulf Coast wearing off and not much being done to resolve the issue, people are becoming more creative in ways of spreading awareness.  A new application that allows you to create an oil spill on any website is the latest tool out on the market. The app – A Cleaner Future – was the doing of marketing company, Mark & Phil and postproduction house, Greener Media.  The aim of the app is to raise awareness about clean energy alternatives and getting people to spread the word. When visiting the site, www.instantoilspill.com, you will be able to create your very own oil spill on your website of choice and will be given an inspirational quote and have the choice to send it to your friends (which I suggest doing!). A Cleaner Future is also in the works of creating a documentary about the communities affected by the oil spill, according to Ad Age. Since many people aren’t directly affected by the spill, we tend to forget about it and move on with our daily lives. The reality is that there are real people who are dramatically affected by this and need help and support. This application is one of the many that are educating people that there are energy alternatives and tragedies like this can be avoided in the future. What do you think about this app? Is it effective?

MapQuest Gets a Makeover

One of the most popular websites on the internet, MapQuest, has just received a fresh new look. Since starting in 1996, MapQuest has been a leader in online mapping and direction tools. Recently though, Google has taken the spotlight away with Google Maps. This more up-to-date site had a one up on MapQuest with capabilities such as Street View, Google Search integration and a more efficient approach with their direction tools. AOL, who acquired MapQuest back in 2000, and MapQuest realized a website overhauling was in dire need to regain popularity.

The new site boasts a whole new, much sleeker look than the old version. The site now has a whole new image and direction along with a new trendy logo. Many of the changes to the website are to make it easier for users to navigate the site. The user interface is less cluttered than before and there is more relevant information above the fold.  When clicking the directions button, users are presented with a whole new interface that is very modern and efficient. MapQuest has made it easier to add and reorder different stops on your trip with a drag-and-drop system.

With this whole new design and features, MapQuest just might be making the comeback that has been long overdue. What do you think? Does MapQuest have a fighting chance still with its rival Google Search?

A Possible Facebook Competitor in the Works?

Rumors have been spreading like wildfire that Google is in the process of creating their own social network called Google Me. Google Me is hoping to become as big as, or bigger than, Facebook, who is their largest competitor in the social networking world. While there is no official statement regarding this project, Facebook’s former CTO, Adam D’ Angelo, said that Google Me is underway in development and is being taken very seriously. Google tried its hand in social media by creating Buzz, which was a mirror image of Twitter and didn’t gain much popularity. Another social network flop called Okrut was big in South America, but never took off globally. The problem was that Google was just copying already existing sites and not creating something entirely new that people would be drawn to with curiosity.  According to D’Angelo, Google Me is based off of Facebook, which will make it very tough for them to overcome the powerhouse and become the leader in social networking. I’m anxious to see if the Google Me rumors are true…what about you?

Convo On Cannes

This past Thursday was the last Thursday of the month…do you know what that means? It means that we hosted our “Last Thursday” party! We are throwing themed parties in our penthouse suite every last Thursday of the month through August. Since the Cannes Film Festival was not too long ago, we decided that that would be the perfect theme! We worked hard to transform our office into a French Riviera all from décor to tasty French treats. Once stepping out of the elevator, guests had to fill out a quick survey about their opinion on award shows. Choices ranged from “They’re awesome, I love seeing the best work” to “They’re lame, it’s become an inner circle pat on the back.” After successfully completing the quirky ballot, VIP passes were given out, granting access to the party. Upon entering the office you were immediately floored by the delicious smells of fresh crepes being made for our wonderful guests. My personal favorite was the “Times Square” which had warm caramel apples inside and garnished with powdered sugar. Yum! There was also ham and swiss cheese croissants available for the taking. Upstairs where the party was really hopping, deejaysoul was getting everyone’s feet moving with some great music. To keep with the theme, our drink of the evening was a Cote D’Azur martini. This blue concoction was quite delectable and was being served in abundance. The weather was perfect for our rooftop party and everyone seemed like they had a great time. Our friend, Kelly Samardak was nice enough to write about us on her Mediapost blog, “Just An Online Minute“. Go check out the article and pictures and see how much fun we had!

I will be on vacation with intermittent access to email and phone messages. The last vacation I took resulted in my son throwing my phone into the pool. He was only one at the time, so I’m sure it was an accident. He’s three now, and might be more purposeful in his efforts to keep me relaxed.

For the sake of my iPhone, please route your customer service issues to our new President Georg at [email withheld], and for technical questions, please contact our service desk at [number withheld] for any tech help you might need.

Today is Conversation’s “Last Thursday” shindig. We send out an email reminding our friends to come on up to the penthouse and get their party on. Above is an automated out of office message we received that we thought was quite funny. It just goes to show how the iPhone can really hinder a working man’s rest and relaxation on vacation. Let’s just hope his son doesn’t get a hold of his phone this time around!

What’s That Dreadful Noise!?

I’m sure that everyone has been tuning in to watch the World Cup matches these past few weeks. If you have been, I bet you have been wondering what that odd buzzing noise is coming from the stands. Well that annoying noise comes from hundreds of people with vuvuzelas. A vuvzela is a long plastic horn that produces a low pitched buzzing sound. It has become the norm at soccer matches, especially in the World Cup. There was talk about trying to ban them from the stadium, but the fans were outraged and the threat disappeared. If for some reason you enjoy the buzzing, you can now listen to it with a click of a button! YouTube now features a vuvuzela button in the right hand corner of the screen that is shaped like a soccer ball. So if you are in soccer mode and need your vuvuzela fix, head on over to YouTube!

Greg Packer: Master of Line-Sitting

Who ever thought you could be paid money to wait on line? Those who said no—just talk to Greg Packer. Packer is just an ordinary Long Island man who has gotten his 15 minutes of fame for his impressive line-sitting. His most noted claim to fame is that he was the first person in line for the Apple iPhone backed in 2007 at the 5th Avenue store. He also was first in line for the iPad, but was sadly told to move back due to having no reservation. With the new iPhone 4 coming out, you’d better be certain that Packer is waiting in line again. But this time he’s getting a few perks out of it.

Gazelle, a service that lets people sell and recycle their unwanted electronics, is sponsoring Packer’s sit for the iPhone 4. Gazelle has outfitted Packer with some snazzy threads to wear and camping equipment to face the harsh elements of NYC. On top of that, he is also getting paid $250 every day he waits in line AND Gazelle is going to pay for his new iPhone 4. If I was getting paid that amount of money, I’d be out there for weeks!

Some people think he’s crazy, others think he’s a pioneer. What’s your opinion on the matter?
